News: Sun To Offer Windows Server On x64 Systems

c|net - Both Sun and Microsoft announced today that Sun will start offering Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 on its entire line-up of x64 systems. Windows Servers will already run on Sun's systems, but this move means Sun can now pre-install the software and offer customer support. The companies have also collaborated with virtualization technology and have confirmed that Sun's Solaris will work well as a "guest" with Microsoft's virtualization, with Windows also working well in a virtualized Solaris environment.

The announcement has followed a closer working relationship between the two companies, with part of the arrangement including bumping the number of staff working as part of an interoperability lab started in 2004. The industry as a whole can be highly competitive at times, so the two working together to improve products and their deployment is nice to see.
