- "Nikkei Keizai Shimbun reported in late October that Sony had to revise its launch numbers from 100,000 to 80,000 units for Japan. Problems with blue laser diodes was the most frequently cited reason for the production cut, but it looks as though Sony has been able to deliver above and beyond the 80,000 figure.
Sony managed to sell roughly 88,400 PS3s in the first two days of availability in Japan. According to Enterbrain, most stores in Japan have been completely depleted of inventory and are awaiting the second wave of the consoles.
Of the 88,400 units sold, around 62% were the more advanced 60GB version which also includes a multi-card reader and WiFi. US retailers are expected to receive an 80%/20% split of 60GB/20GB models. "
